Marketing Yourself

Thank you for returning! Have you gotten your copy of the YOUNG PHOTOPRENEUR'S HANDBOOK? If not, what are you waiting for? Check it out at HERE today!

As a Freelancer, you need to have clients…

I’m often asked from my peers, how I generate business for myself. Or better yet, how can they generate more work for themselves. Well, I feel it would be a waste of knowledge to keep everything I’ve learned to myself, what would be the point of that? So now that we’ve finished our last series on the top 10 things every photography student should have, you should have a good idea of what you need to set up your foundation as a freelance photographer.

If you took the steps into action, you will now be ready to find more work. Only thing is, how do you do that? You’ve come to the right place. This series will stimulate your creative juices on getting more work, and resources you can turn to, to make it happen! So let’s get started!

Of course, there’s more than ten ways to generate clients, but this will definitely be a great springboard for you to work on for the next few months. Take these steps into action, and you’re sure to get work.

Here’s the laundry list, and over the next few posts, I will go more into detail!

  1. Job Boards corkboards
  2. Be a walking billboard
  3. Golden Ticket Clients
  4. Use the media to your advantage
  5. Make yourself visible
  6. Are you an expert?
  7. The trusty phone
  8. Rub shoulders with like minded people
  9. Run your mouth
  10. If it looks like a duck…

Today, we’ll focus on using Job Boards.

Craisglist can be a great place to find work. There are people who have placed ads especially just for photographers. You can also post your resume, and put your own ads up as well. At the end of this article will be a list of other job boards you should definitely check out!
Although we may not always think of it, there are also offline job boards. Keep your eye open for them, but obvious places are schools, however, many workplaces also have job boards or a place where they use for announcments. Don’t be afraid to go and ask if you can place your promo card up. The worst they could say is no:)
Besides school and work, you could also contact the Chamber of Commerce in your area, not only to network, but to find out how and where to put up an ad in your community or local area. Just the Chamber of Commerce itself may be of great use to you. If you join as a member, you can have the opportunity to meet other people that run businesses in your area. What a great way to be around people that are running a business, like yourself!!

Before you go however, as I promised, below is a list of job boards to check out! A few I used myself, and others I’ve gotten good feedback from, from other photographers. Good Luck!
