Start using social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to meet new people, and expand your business!

Social networking has become a very popular way to promote yourself and your business. Networking is a large part of the photography industry, so why not enhance your online networking skills as much as you’re working on your offline skills?

Facebook and Twitter have become a highly ranked resource for networking with people all across the globe. It would be to our advantage to take advantage of such a great opportunity.

Your Facebook Account

Here’s a few suggestions on getting the most out of your Facebook account:

1. Display your photography by setting up different albums that represent the types of photography you’ve done, and would like to do more of.

2. Find groups with like minded people (i.e. other photographers, makeup artists, stylists, etc etc) You can even start your own group and have a large following if people are interested in what you have to say!

3. Make sure to provide links where people can get more information about you (i.e. website, blog, articles written about you, myspace, etc etc)

4. Consider registering a domain name that forwards directly to your facebook account. For example, you may buy a url such as (YourBusinessNameFacebook). The domain will be easy to read, and people will know that it’s connected to your Facebook account!

Do you Tweet?

Another great way to stay connected with people, and vice versa, is with a Twitter account. Basically it’s like a micro blog, where you’re only allotted 140 characters to say what you gotta say!

To get the most out of it, you should make sure to not only send out messages on your own account, but to stay connected with people that are following you. That way, there’s actually a conversation going on, and you’re not the only one talking.

Not sure what Twitter is? You can see an example at my Twitter page, and follow me if you’d like! Check it out here at Cheri Amour’s Twitter Page.

Here’s a few suggestions on getting the most out of Twitter:

1. The more you Tweet, the better. Of course you don’t just want to tweet about irrelevant things unless you know your followers will be interested. However, post frequently so people will start to remember you.

2. When someone decides to follow you, send a message thanking them. Try to stay in touch and build a relationship with people that are interested in you.

3. Link your Twitter account to your Facebook. That way whenever you tweet, it will automatically be posted on your Facebook, and you’ll never have to worry about manually doing it. What a time saver!

about photography. You may have already experienced random questions about photography from people who know you, and if you haven’t, the time will soon come.

Even experts will admit that they don’t know EVERYTHING about their niche or topic, and if a question comes up that they can’t answer, they will make sure to find the answer. In the previous post, you learned how to make yourself visible to new clients through your website, following up with new leads, and getting listed in the Yellow and White Pages.

Continuing on 10 ways photographer’s can generate more clients, today you’ll learn how to create an image of expertise in your field.

Do you know what type of photography you want to be known for? Product, Wedding, Advertising? There are so many different avenues in photography you can go into, I’d suggest you try out the ones that are of most interest to you, and from there, focus on becoming an expert in that area.

Once you decide, you can make a name for yourself as the “go to” guy/girl, when it comes to a particular aspect of photography.

So let’s go over some steps to take when positioning yourself as an expert. First of all, you can pitch an article to a photography publication. Or a publication that uses pictures in the area of the photography work you do. The less work an editor has to do, the better. So I’d suggest writing an article along with your pictures to tell the story, for a better chance of getting it published.

You could also pitch a story to a blog or resource website. Do you have a great testimonial on your success in photography? Have you gained knowledge that other photographer’s could use? Why not pitch your story and get online publication? This blog you’re reading now is also open to submissions. What better inspiration to other photographer’s, than hearing stories from like minded individuals!

Offer to speak at industry and networking events. What great exposure would it be if you spoke in front of a group of people wanting to hear your message! You could speak about the tips and tools you’ll learn right from this website! Or speak about photography in general, and offer your services.

Are you starting to see how you can be an expert in photography? Let’s move on!

Do you know your camera like the back of your hand? Or do you know some great photoshop tips that could help a large amount of people? You could submit tutorials to websites. People will associate your name with tutorials you’ve submitted that have helped them become better photographer’s.

Get on the radio.
